At this scale, a river is mostly a mirror reflecting the sky or the vegetation around. I chose a blue shade in harmony with the settings around, and a gloss varnish layer.

I propose a set of two river sections (15cmx60cm each), one with a bridge, one with a ford, connecting with the road system. This set offers a lot of ways of assembly as you can see on the pictures.
